Surely we've all asked the question, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” Well, I’ll be taking on this age-old question in an upcoming series of sermons. It’s a huge question that I wish could be answered without any pain or regret. But life has a way of throwing difficult things our way all the time.
In my preparation, my goal was to point to many instances in scripture where the followers of God surely asked this question themselves, and then guide us all in the answers that scripture provides. That’s still the plan, yet as I was preparing this series, I hit some struggles in trying to give clear direction on this topic and jokingly offered to call the series “Why do bad sermons happen to good members.”
The truth is, there is evil in the world. Bad things do happen to good people. But we serve a God who is above all, and our trust in Him is where we will find the hope to go on.
